Iyengar Yoga – YOGA KURUNTA

What is Yoga Kurunta?

Yoga Kurunta is the practice of yoga asanas with the help of suspension ropes. This unique style was introduced to the world by the legendary yogi Tirumalai Krishnamacharya, who passed on his teachings to his students Pattabhi Jois and B.K.S. Iyengar.

In her book A Gem for Women, Geeta S. Iyengar compares Yoga Kurunta to puppet theater: the body learns to move in different positions like a puppet, where the puppet and the puppeteer form a single entity.

The main benefits of practicing with ropes:

a

Gravity helps to open and lengthen the body, allowing complex asanas to be performed with ease and in the correct direction.

a

Ability to remain in position longer without significant effort

a

Allows people with neck or shoulder injuries to safely practice inversions

a

Develops spatial orientation and courage

I personally practice Yoga Kurunta regularly. The ropes bring a feeling of lightness, freedom, and correct movement. At the same time, they allow you to observe the world around you from a new angle—even upside down. Try it and discover what Yoga Kurunta can do for you.
