Iyengar Yoga Level 2
What is Iyengar Yoga?
The main principle of Iyengar yoga according to B.K.S. Iyengar is alignment of the body in asana.
Correct alignment:
minimizes the risk of injury,
enables deeper and safer stretching and strengthening,
develops stability, balance, and control of movement,

Level 2 (L2) is for advanced beginners and intermediate students. The lessons build on the foundations of L1, adding more complex positions, deeper stretches, and longer holds of asanas. The sequences are designed to promote balance in the body and nervous system and prepare students for deeper practice and more advanced asanas.
L2 goals and benefits:
deepen and perfect basic asanas L1
develop strength, flexibility, and balance
strengthen conscious awareness of the body and breath
prepare your body for more complex positions and inversions
precise body alignment
sequencing: lessons are designed to provide balanced stimulation and support for both the body and nervous system
emphasis on breathing: leads to better stability, concentration, and conscious movement
suitable for all age groups
emphasis on the correct use of aids, which allows us to practice safely even for advanced students with physical limitations
Examples of L2 asanas:
Virabhadrasana III, Parivrtta Ardha Chandrasana, Parivrtta Upavistha Konasana and Janu Sirsasana, Marichyasana variations, Paschimottanasana (longer hold), Urdhva Mukha Svanasana, Setu Bandhasana (more advanced), Urdhva Dhanurasana, Adho Mukha Vrksasana (preparatory), Pincha Mayurasana (preparatory), Salamba Sarvangasana cycle (preparatory), Salaba Sirsasana cycle, longer Savasana and pranayama.
